A step towards the electronic EHIC

In the framework of the NETC@RDS Phase B Initial Deployment Plan a kick off meeting took place in Paris the 3rd July 2009, on the initiative on CNAMTS, the Ministry of Health and SESAM-Vitale EIG.

A dozen of hospitals were asked to come and discover the project, its goals and how it is working. The first reactions were very positive: NETC@RDS should allow those hospitals to offer a better care coverage for European patients in need of healthcare (time saving, reduction of risks of frauds and better follow up of transaction flow).

At the end of the meeting, all the participating hospitals received a kit of terminal and communication equipments within the so-called “NETC@RDS blue box”.

The kit includes a smart card reader, a set of test cards (Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia), communication tools (posters) and for some of them, EHIC OCR readers.
